Understanding Kanekalon Hair: Safety & Transparency

Understanding Kanekalon Hair: Safety & Transparency

Kanekalon Hair Extensions

At Signature Syn Hair Extensions, customer safety and transparency are extremely important to us. We understand that some customers may have questions about Kanekalon fibre used in synthetic hair extensions, and we would like to provide clear information.

What is Kanekalon?

Kanekalon is a high-quality synthetic modacrylic fibre that has been widely used in wigs, hair extensions, and braiding hair around the world for many decades. When manufactured in line with international safety standards and used as intended, it is generally considered safe for normal cosmetic wear.

How Our Halo Extensions Are Different

Halo Hair Extension Design

It is important to note that most safety concerns discussed online typically relate to braiding hair, which is often installed tightly at the roots and remains in direct contact with the scalp for long periods. Our Halo Hair Extensions are designed very differently. They are not attached to the roots or scalp, and instead sit gently on the head with a protective lace weft barrier between the fibre and the skin, significantly reducing direct contact. Our Halo extensions are designed only for their intended purpose and should not be used for braiding.

Heat Safety

Like many synthetic fibres and plastics, Kanekalon should not be exposed to high heat or open flames. Excessive heat can cause the material to melt and may release irritating fumes. For this reason, we recommend always following care instructions and avoiding high-temperature styling unless the product is specifically labelled as heat-safe.

Recommendations for Sensitive Skin

Some individuals with very sensitive skin may occasionally experience mild irritation from any synthetic fibre. To help minimise this risk, we recommend the following precautions:

  • Pre-use wash: Soak the hair or band in a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water to help remove any surface residue from manufacturing.
  • Wear time awareness: Those with sensitive skin may prefer to limit very prolonged wear.
  • Low-heat styling: Avoid high heat to reduce the risk of fibre damage or fumes.

Our Commitment to Quality

All of our suppliers are required to comply with relevant safety regulations, chemical standards, and quality control requirements.

Your safety, comfort, and confidence remain our top priority.
