The Secret to an Undetectable Halo Extension

The most common question we hear from new halo extension wearers is: "Will people be able to tell?" The honest answer is — only if you don't blend it properly. With a few simple techniques, your Signature Syn Halo extension can look completely seamless and indistinguishable from your natural hair.

Step 1: Get the Colour Match Right

Blending starts before you even put the extension in. A close colour match is the single most important factor for a natural look. Use our colour ring guide or order a colour sample before committing. If you're between two shades, go slightly lighter — it's easier to blend a lighter extension than one that's too dark.

Tip: If your hair has highlights or balayage, look for a halo that matches your mid-lengths rather than your roots.

Step 2: Match the Texture

Our halos come in straight, wavy, and curly textures. Always choose the texture closest to your natural hair. If your hair sits between textures, you can lightly wave a straight halo or smooth a wavy one with a brush — just keep heat below 130°C for Kanekalon fibres.

Step 3: Backcomb the Root Area Slightly

Before fitting your halo, add a tiny amount of backcombing or texturising spray to the section of hair that will sit over the wire. This creates grip and helps the wire stay hidden, while also making the root area look fuller and more blended.

Step 4: Use a Blending Brush

Once the halo is in place and your front hair is released over the wire, use a soft paddle brush or wide-tooth comb to gently brush through the join between your natural hair and the extension. Work in downward strokes to encourage the fibres to sit together naturally.

Step 5: Add Face-Framing Layers

If you notice a visible line where your natural hair ends and the extension begins, ask your hairdresser to add a few soft face-framing layers to your natural hair. This breaks up any hard lines and makes the blend virtually invisible.

Step 6: Finish with a Light Serum or Spray

A small amount of shine serum or light-hold hairspray applied through the lengths unifies the texture of your natural hair and the extension, making everything look like one cohesive style.

Common Blending Mistakes to Avoid

• Placing the wire too far back — it should sit about 2–3 cm from your hairline, not at the crown.
• Not releasing enough front hair — make sure you have enough hair to fully cover the wire.
• Using too much product — heavy products can make the extension look different in texture to your natural hair.
• Skipping the colour match — even a shade or two off can make the extension visible in certain lighting.
